Who is a caregiver?
You might not know it (or give yourself credit), but you’re probably a caregiver. According to the Wisconsin Family Caregiver Support program, you’re a caregiver if one or more of the following apply to you:
• You provide direct care to someone such as feeding, bathing, dressing, supervision or any other type of physical care.
• You provide supportive care such as delivering meals, giving rides, calling or stopping in to check on someone.
• You feel concern that someone you know isn’t taking care of him or herself.
• You feel concern that a caregiver you know is struggling and needs help.
In addition, being a caregiver is not limited to caring for an aging parent. This role also includes caring for someone with a disability, grandparents who care for children under age 19, and individuals who care for others with Alzheimer’s (regardless of age).
